In this course, students will explore the works of British writers from the Anglo-Saxon period to the modern day. Our study will cover key historical events, major literary movements, and overarching themes. This course will help students develop a greater understanding of British literature, but also of the evolution of the English language. Additionally, throughout the year we will continue to strengthen students’ critical thinking, reading,writing, research, language, and public speaking skills in accordance with Common Core standards. Students will emerge from this course with the language arts skills needed to be successful in their post-high school endeavors.
Units covered •Anglo-Saxon and Medieval Periods •English Renaissance •Restoration and the 18thCentury •The Flowering of Romanticism •The Victorians •Modern & Contemporary Literature We will also cover numerous novels and works of literature throughout the year including but not exclusive to Macbeth, Frankenstein and The Canterbury Tales.
